I’m currently working on getting the Wordpress(the progam with which I run this site) App working on my iPhone. While this won’t guarantee any news, it will however expedite the posting of any potential news.

there’s a little news, but I’ll wait until I get this app working to post it.

Not it hasn’t!

Sorry to those of you who checked the site in the last day or so. Our server host was migrating information and apparently something didn’t get migrated properly or some similar event. Regardless we’re back up, and there’s still no real news otherwise.

I, as I’m sure you all do, have Filmkid.com set as my default homepage when I open Firefox. So every time I open my browser I see that my last post was Feb 28th.  I’d love to say we’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to update, but really there’s just no news.  That’s not entirely true, but there was no urgent news.

So, since I posted nothing in the entire month here is my Filmkid March: A Month in Review.

Bello met a writer/director of note and gave him a copy of Several Ways to Die Trying. His opinion of the film was that it is “Adorable” and “Sweet” and he is right. It is both of those things. It’s unclear what this means in terms of our collective careers, but at least it’s nice to know our work is appreciated by someone whose work we appreciate.

I met a crazy man who insisted he’s good friends with a local documentarian and could get me a job. I gave him a copy of the movie, and several weeks later when I saw the man again he had no idea who I was. Either he was lying to get a free DVD, or he was really crazy. Either way- I’m flattered at the idea of someone going to the trouble of coming up with an elaborate ruse to procure my work, or at the very minimum I gave a crazy guy something to watch. And crazy people need DVDs too.

Sadly, that about rounds out the month. I’m hoping April pans out a little better.

The thing about the new tapeless workflow we’ve embraced for Dilemma, is that although we did manage to shoot the movie and have the first rough cut done on the same day you still have to have time to meet with your editor to go over the final cut. You also still have to wait on music. So although the first cut took us only a few hours the final cut is taking weeks.

We’re remedying both those issues and the final product should be out- you guessed it- soon.

Then Filmbaby.com (no relation to Filmkid.com) has the solution for you!

http://www.filmbaby.com/films/2507

Head over there and click ‘Download’ and $12.75 (via Credit Card or Paypal) later you have it on your computer. No beautifully and carefully designed and expensive packaging to take up space in your home, just a file on your computer.

The other, and really only advantage to this is that the wait is limited only by your internet connection- not by the postal service or my ability to get the post office to ship you a disc. Also, now all you crazy kids in other countries who wanted to see the film but worried about things like $35 shipping fees (that’s you, guy in Sweden who emailed me) can get a copy.

It’s also a nice change of pace to see Filmbaby actually achieving something for the film’s distribution. Since December I’ve had to following conversation with them weekly:

Filmkid:  “Hi, my film Several Ways to Die Trying is listed with your site, which says it should also be listed with Amazon.com and Super D. It’s not up on Amazon yet and I just got off the phone with Super D and they’ve never heard of it.”

Filmbaby:  “Amazon usually takes a while to list new products from us, but all our films are listed with Super D.”

Filmkid: “Not mine.”

Filmbaby: “All of them.”

Filmkid: “I just got off the phone with them like 2 minutes ago, and they don’t have it.”

Filmbaby: “All of them.”

This is when I hang up or stop sending them email replies depending on means of communication. I’ve heard great things about Filmbaby when they actually get your movie listed with their partner companies, but since that’s yet to happen- I have nothing great to say. Other than that it’s free, so I can’t complain too much. But that won’t stop me from complaining.

You know any review that starts with the words “Holy Crap!” can only go one of two ways. Thankfully, in the case of Zach Cranor’s response to my stupid movie based on one of his “stupid drawings” it went in the resoundingly positive direction.

As this is the first thing I ever actually adapted it’s nice to see the original work’s creator responding so well to a Filmkid interpretation. I’d also like to thank all of you who watched the rough cut and gave us some feedback- it’ll help a lot in the final cut.

We’ll be finishing the cut up soon and shortly thereafter marrying it to some great Jesse Gimbel music before we start sending it out to festivals.

Thanks again everybody!

Today we shot “Dilemma” based on one of Zach Cranor’s “Last Place Comic”

It came out wicked good looking and a rough cut will be done tonight thanks to the magic of a tape-free workflow. With a case of beer and around $50 we managed to negotiate a days worth of use with several thousands of dollars worth of equipment, because we’re just that good.

Expect the rough cut soon.

With all this business about forming as an LLC, releasing the DVD, having parties, having day jobs, etc. it’s been far too long since Filmkid’s actually popped out a movie. Well all that’s about to change.

Sunday Jan 27th we’ll be shooting ‘Dilemma’ a short (and I mean short, that script’s barely a page long) film based on the greatest web comic ever* - Last Place Comics by Zach Cranor.

Zach is a genius and we’re jumping on that action while the going’s good.

As of right now we’re doing this is classic Filmkid $0 budget fashion barring any major changes. If we get a budget I’ll expand the script, but for now it exists in all its barebones glory.

So look forward to that with great enthusiasm.

Several people have expressed to me that they want a copy of the movie, but for various reasons are unable or unwilling to pay $17 for it. While I think this is silly I am sensitive to the blight of others in this dying economy so I offer the follow challenge:

If you don’t think the movie is worth $17- offer us something else.

That’s right. Barter for it. Are you a musician? Send us a CD. Painter? Paint us something. Etc. In the interest of fairness though we’d like a preview first. Afterall, we’ve got the trailer up here so you at least have some idea of what you’re getting.

So go post in the forum under the Barter section with what you’re offering and if we’re interested we’ll give you the greenlight to send it along. When we get it I’ll shoot you back a copy of the movie.

Since today is my first real day off from my crappy day job since the release parties it also starts my one-man marketing onslaught of the greater Phillipsburg area. If you are a business that sells DVDs and you live in a reasonable driving distance from me then you can expect a visit- or several- I’m persistent.

And a quick note about the new banner photo; Some people may think it’s immature to put a sticky note on your friend’s back while he’s talking to a former major studio employee at you DVD release party… Me… well I get people to photograph it and make it the first thing you see on my website.

How about that noise.
